Launched on the 21st July 2016 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, the research programme on zoonoses (diseases transmissible from animals to humans and inversely) held its second annual meeting from 10 to 23 September 2017 in Arusha, Tanzania. The meeting included a summer school on research planning and management, a scientific event with presentations of the studies carried out within the programme, and the management board meeting.
The meeting was attended by the coordination team, the Scientific and Strategic Advisory Board (SAB), the supervisors, the principal investigators and the leaders of the Thematic Training Programmes (TTP leads).
The TTP leads presented their achievements in terms of research carried out. These mainly concern the recruitment of postdocs, PhD and Master students and the support for the design of the research protocols of the fellows.
The coordination team, starting with the director of Afrique One-ASPIRE, Prof. Bassirou Bonfoh, highlighted the activities carried out in terms of governance, policy and public engagement.
The SAB led by Prof. Brian Perry appreciated the work done and made some recommendations for the next four years of the programme.
