Afrique One-ASPIRE: The Kick-Off Meeting in Kampala from 19 to 23 September 2016

Afrique One-ASPIRE, the second phase of an African research program on animal-human health, will organize its first Management Board Meeting in Kampala, capital of Uganda, from 19 to 23 September 2016. The program aims at training the next generation of African researchers through the concept « One Health ». A course on transdisciplinary research is associated to this kick-off meeting.

A major goal of this meeting is that participants get familiar with the AESA programme under the DELTAS Africa Initiative. The workshop will focus on implementation planning, setting governance and management procedures, prepare calls for fellowship. Afrique One-ASPIRE plans to train 18 Masters, 16 PhD and 13 Post docs. The recruitment of these students will be planned in Kampala.

A training session will be offered during this Kick-Off meeting in order to build researchers capacity in transdisciplinary approach in zoonoses elimination. It will be facilitated by Dr Constanze Pfeiffer, Sociologist and Prof. Jakob Zinsstag, Veterinary-epidemiologist.

Afrique One-ASPIRE is funded by a donor consortium by the Wellcome Trust, the UKAid, the African Academy of Sciences and the African Union through NEPAD. It covers seven (7) African institutions (CSRS, IHI, NMIMR, IRED, SUA, NM-AIST, Beca / ILRI), seven (7) other African partners (EISMV NMIR, TAWIRI, UDSM, Makun, KCRI / KCMC, MUHAS) and two (2) institutions northern partners (University of Glasgow and the Swiss TPH) in eight (8) countries (Ivory Coast, Senegal, Ghana, Chad, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, England, Switzerland).
